Preparing for your hospital stay doesn't have to be a daunting task. Actually, it is much easier when you realize that all you really NEED is yourself, your support team, and your provider. But, having "all the things" is a comfort thing that I totally understand and have subscribed to myself during my own births.
So below is a quick list to help you bring in the things from home that can bring a sense of comfort to your birthing and/or early postpartum experience. (And don't forget about your partner...there's a section for them too!)

For Labor
  • A Picture ID, Insurance Card, any Hospital Paperwork you may need
  • Your Customized Birth Plan (Please email for a FREE printable birthplan template)
  • Bathrobe, Personal Birthing Gown, Socks, Slippers
  • Lip Balm
  • Bottles of Water/Sport Drinks (avoid orange or red colored drinks)
  • Comfort Measures
    • Music/Playlist and something to play it
    • Birthing/Exercise Ball (insure it is the correct size for you, the birthing person)
    • Pictures of loved ones
    • Battery powered/flameless candles
    • Preferred Oils/Aromatherapy (please consult a professional aromatherapist for recommendations. Or contact me for a referral)
  • Personal Pillows (anything but white pillowcase. This ensures it will not become mixed with the hospital pillows)
  • Anything else that may bring you relaxation
For Partner
  • Phone with Charger
  • Separate Camera with charger, & memory card
  • Change of clothes and comfortable shoes
  • Toiletries
  • Snacks/Money or change for vending machines
For After Delivery
  • Fresh Gown/Comfortable dress
  • Cell phone charger/ Power Bank
  • Snacks
  • Toiletries
  • Nursing or regular Bras
  • Maternity Underwear
  • Comfortable Socks/Booties
  • Gifts For Older Children
  • A folder/Binder to organize all of the paper materials you will receive
  • A going home outfit
For Baby
  • An INSTALLED car seat
  • An outfit for in hospital pictures with all wanted accessories
  • A baby blanket
  • A going home outfit

Feel free to add to or take away things as you see fit. And should you forget to pack any of this stuff, no worries, between your Doula and the Hospital (and possible quick spousal runs back to the house after the birth...because, that happens and it's ok!) you will have everything you and your precious little one need to feel comfortable while away from home.

I know that lots of us don't want to experience going to hospital because it could only mean several things; it's either you will be confined or there is someone close to you whom is confined. But this is something that we should be prepared of and it would be right if we know the things to put inside our bag whenever it is needed. Thank you for serving as our guide with this matter as I have learned a lot of stuff. Though I wasn't really expecting to see some items on the list. It was a good thing that you have it shared to all of us.
